Internet -Based Services for Aircraft Composite Repair
Internet-based advisory service (called Repair Advisory Service, RAS) for composite repair is proposed to assist repair engineers resulting in reduced time and cost of repair process.
In this RAS system, the 3-tier client-server architecture was applied. As the client (1st tier) RAS takes advantage of the web user interface, which provides easy access to the service.
The RAS server (2nd tier) provides a web-based link to the failure prediction, Structural Repair Manual(SRM), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), material data, inventory and knowledge base.
Computer codes for strength design estimate the tensile failure and shear failure of repaired structures. The failure estimation is based on maximum strain criterion for tensile failure and elastic-perfect plastic shear failure model for interfacial shear failure. The values from the models were verified with experimental results. The OEMĄ¯s SRM is provided in the PDF format for viewing and searching in web browsers instead of looking up paper version manuals.
Although RAS was developed for composite repair, the same system can be applied to the repair of isotropic materials such as aluminum.
