SmartFab is a kind of 'Web-based Design and Manufacturing System', which has tightened link between CAD system (SolidWorks) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) tools. Micro machining information such as tool, material, run-out, and cost estimation data were formulated and provided to the designer to prevent problematic designs. DFM tools for sketch, pocket validation using SolidWorks Application Programming Interface (API) are implemented in plug-in module. NC code generation and cost estimation service are served through the web browser on the internet. The working process of SmartFab was constructed as below.
